Dr. Samuel Joseph Castro, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduate from the University of the Philippines – Los Baños, began his career with the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry, working as a field veterinarian and Regional Coordinator on the National Foot and Mouth Disease Eradication Project. After earning a Master of Veterinary Public Health from Freie Universität Berlin and Chiang Mai University, he contributed to various FAO projects, including the Coconut-Based Farming Systems Programme and the Immediate Technical Assistance for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Control. Dr. Castro rejoined DA BAI as the focal person for the National Program on Antimicrobial Resistance and later coordinated the National African Swine Fever Prevention and Control Program. Currently pursuing a PhD at Chiang Mai University, Dr. Castro is a Diplomate of the Philippine College of Veterinary Public Health and the Philippine College of Veterinary Epidemiologists, where he also serves as President.
